Application Process
To apply, candidates:
- Will be evaluated in an oral interview with the Officer's Board
- Must pass pre-employment drug test
- Must pass written exam on Policy Manual

Training
Training is conducted through the Department by using the
University of Kansas’s Fire and Rescue Training Institute, the
National Fire Academy, Fire Meetings, the
Kansas State Firefighter Association, and various other training seminars. Firefighters are trained to extinguish fire, use personal protective equipment (PPE), vehicle extrication, search and rescue, and more.
Meetings
Fire meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm at the Liberal, Cimarron, and Kismet stations. Firefighters are required to maintain at least a 50% attendance record.
